Match Reports 2007-8 Season - Under 10 Match Reports 2007/8

Cambridge had a disappointing start as Sudbury trampled their way to a 60 – 0 win.  The squad struggled with a very strong and more experienced Sudbury back line who ran through Cambridge with ease.  The end of the match left a dejected Cambridge team trudging back to their coaches and parents.

The second match of the rubber could not have been more different.  Cambridge played with aggression and spirit: the forwards, Digby Hopkinson Woolley, Edward Hyde, Tom Clements and Jim Clarke fought tirelessly for the ball, winning possession against the more experienced team from rucks, scrummages and two impressive driving mauls.  The forwards were rewarded by an appetite for passing and running from the backs with Will Zeitlyn standing out for his straight running.  Hugh Barker (fly-half) and James Young (scrum-half) time and again stopped Sudbury out wide with their cover tackles.  Strong driving and straight running from Jim Clarke resulted in him scoring a well deserved try.  The result, 20 – 5 to Sudbury, was not reflective of the possession or the flow of play, with Cambridge narrowly missing tries on three occasions and Sudbury scoring a very fortunate try after Cambridge had won the ball on their goal line.
