Cambridge ‘Blood’0 – Woodford A 20
Wet and windy conditions at Woodford made it difficult for both teams.
An early interception from Louis got the ball into the Woodford half.
Good mauling and passing down the line was not enough to get the ball
over. A great try saving tackle from Hugh Barker, saw the ball back
into the Woodford half. Not for long as Woodford went 5-0 ahead at half
time.
The second half saw a determined Cambridge battling, pushing into the
Woodford half with a powerful run from Harvey. Great tackling from Tom
Clements, Harry Easton, Louis and Marcus put Woodford under pressure.
Ben Udin and James Young were in the thick of the tackles on the wing.
This was not the prettiest game to watch, but the grit and
determination of all the boys could not avoid three tries against
Cambridge in the second half.
Cambridge ‘Blood’ 5 – Woodford B 20
Cambridge made a great start and maintained a good formation. Great
defensive play from Tom Clements, Marcus, Louis and Harvey drove the
ball into the Woodford half. The ball just would not go over the line
despite attempts by Marcus, Louis and Hugh. Woodford started fighting
back. Connor and Hugh fought to keep them at bay. Woodford were good
from the breakdown and scored two quick tries to leave Cambridge 10-0
down at half time.
The second half saw great tackles and mauls from the forwards making
ground into the Woodford half. Tom Freestone battled hard. Cambridge
could not keep Woodford away from the try line for long and soon bagged
another two. Not despondent, despite being 20 -0 down, the boys rallied
together at the restart. Battling to maintain possession in the middle,
Marcus got the ball out to a waiting Harvey who broke through the
Woodford line, a quick side step away from the last man and he powered
his way over the line.
