Cambridge ‘Blood’ 0 – Hertford B 35
Cambridge battled hard against a very determined Hertford side. Cambridge battled hard for the whole game, and Hertford’s tries mostly came from break aways where Hertford managed to bypass the Cambridge defence and run freely to the try-line.
Cambridge ‘Blood’ 5 – Hertford B 5
Cambridge were undaunted for the rematch and the boys gave Hertford a hard time. Early on in the game, yet another Hertford breakaway looked as if it was going to be a try, but he was stopped by a fantastic tackle by Thomas Freestone. Tom Clements and Bradley Young did some fine tackles, both resulting in pushing Hertford into touch. Hertford scored the first try just before half time, but Cambridge battled on with great running and dodging from Connor Smith and determined play from Milo Reynolds and Ben Todd-Jones. A fantastic team effort from Cambridge saw Thomas Freestone put the ball over the line to make it 1-1. A good result against a tough side.
Cambridge ‘Sand’ 0 – Hertford A 10
A tough start to the morning with the teams evenly matched. A loose ball on the wing and it was Hertford who broke the deadlock in the first half to put Cambridge 5 nil down.
The second half saw a much tighter formation from Cambridge pushing into the Hertford half. Under pressure Cambridge worked well together as a maul came dangerously close to the Hertford line. An interception from Hertford gave them their second. Cambridge was not deterred and several attempts were made to get the ball over, but they were denied.
Cambridge ‘Sand’ 45 – St Neots 10
A good formation from Cambridge and by spreading the ball around them they pushed on into the St Neots half. A great pass from Hugh to Jonah and he powered over the line. A scrum to Cambridge and the forwards pushed the ball out to Jonah for his second. St Neots gained possession, but a great tackle from Jonah, secured his third try. St Neots fought back. Good rucking and committed tackling from Harry Connor, Sam Mace and Ed Hyde keeping possession. The ball was released to Ben Taylor on the wing, a superb run and he side-stepped his way over the line for the fourth
The second half saw St Neots more determined with an early try. Cambridge responded with Robert storming through. Great support from Jonah offloaded to Louis and a fine run down the wing for the fifth. The play became a little scrappy with an excellent offload from Harry Molton to a determined Jonah who secured the sixth. St Neots responded with their second. At the restart the forwards wasted no time, and it was over to Hugh, diving over the line for the seventh. Harry Connor and Sam Mace worked together and Jonah spun out of a hard tackle to touch down with the eighth. It wasn’t over. James Young made a great tackle as St Neots forged deep into the Cambridge half but robust defending from Robert, Harry Molton and Marcus soon stopped the advance. It was over to the wing, to Louis and Harry Connor a great pass back from Harry Connor to Louis to nail the ninth.
Cambridge ‘Sand’ 5 – Hertford A 15
A stronger start from Cambridge but vigorous defending from Hertford held them at bay. A great run from Robert gave Cambridge the advantage and a try saving tackle on the wing from Ben Taylor made the start even. However, Hertford got three trys in quick succession, as they capitalised on a few errors.15 nil down at the end of the first half, there was only one way to go.
The second half and Cambridge dominated the play. Robert forged deep into the Hertford end. Excellent tackling from the forwards and Cambridge were fighting back. Spreading the ball around, determined to break through the line. Hertford were holding their ground. The break through came, with a hard fought great drive from the forwards making the space they need. Jonah fought hard, he made a great run, side stepping the Hertford defence for a well deserved try.
