Welcome to Cambridge Rugby Club Mini & Youth Section

Come up to the Club on a Sunday morning and you will see over 350 boys and girls aged 6 to 17 playing with as much pride and passion as the 1st XV but perhaps with a different emphasis, where children smiling is much more important than winning.

Mini, Midi, & Youth

The section is run principally by the parents of the children and adheres fully to the requirements and recommendations of the RFU and RFUW and, in particular, the ethos for Equity in Sport, Health & Safety and Child Safeguarding.

The Mini, Midi and Youth rugby section divides into three parts: Mini (Under 7s to Under 10s), Midi (Under 11s and Under 12s) and Youth (Under 13s to Under 17s) .

At Under 7 and Under 8 age groups Tag rugby is played. Contact rugby starts at Under 9 to Under 12 where the game is played on half the pitch and with a limited number of players in accordance with the RFU Continuum.

Youth rugby sees 15 a side matches played on a full size pitch from Under 13 to Under 17. The laws of the game are gradually introduced as the team moves up through the ages.

Colts rugby (Under 18 and Under 19) is the transition section to the full adult game.

A players age is determined as at the 1st September.

We welcome new players of all ages and experience to join us throughout the season.

Membership

This season (2010-11), when a mini and youth player signs up, a parent or guardian of the player will become a full non-playing member of the Club at a cost of £65, thereby enjoying the benefits of club membership.  The mini and youth players will pay a small additional playing fee of £15 per player.

Girls Rugby

Girls and boys play a fully integrated game up to and including the Under 12s age group. The introduction of the Girls Under 15s team has been particularly popular at the Club.

Seal of Approval/Sport England

The Club has been awarded the RFU Seal of Approval and Sport England Charter Status. The Seal of Approval is the RFU’s recognition of a child friendly club. To this end, Cambridge Rugby Club has appointed two Child Safeguarding Officers and our coaches are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and have attended Child Protection courses. If you have any concerns about the welfare of your child please do not hesitate to approach one of our Child Safeguarding Officers.

Codes of Conduct

Parents and supporters are reminded of our Codes of Conduct which are posted on the Club notice board and can be downloaded from this site. Players and coaches also have a Code of Conduct.

Kit

Every child who is picked to represent the Club against other clubs will be expected to wear proper clean kit and must be registered with the Club and have completed the RFU registration form. Please note gum shields are mandatory in contact rugby. All studs and any body protection/head gear should be IRB approved.

The club colours are blood and sand shirts, red shorts and hooped socks which are available from our Club shop on selected Saturdays and Sundays as advertised at the club or on the website.

Occasionally due to weather conditions it may be necessary to cancel matches at very short notice and your patience and understanding would be appreciated. This may be for a variety of reasons but will be the Groundsman’s decision.

Festival

The Club run a Mini/Midi Festival each year which continues to grow in popularity and must be considered the principal event in the region. This season's Mini/Midi Festival is on 28th March 2010.

Tours

Each year many age groups go on tour,  information on touring can be found at the RFU and from our Playing Committee Chairman,  David Taylor.

1st XV Support - National League 1

Cambridge is the premier Eastern Region Club offering supporters the opportunity to watch high quality rugby. Children have free entry to the Saturday games and the Mini & Youth Section encourages parents to become involved with the senior Club, offering discounted Season Ticket and Match day prices to members.
