We made it! however, a composed start by Cambridge had early pressure applied with Rory Sheppard attempting a steal down the blind, only to visit the touchline, again. ON’s countered with a fine break, through the Cambridge defence slowing them down until they reached Euan Dingwall who wanted his ball back, he got it, gave it to Ryan Headington who decided to take it all the way back to the ON’s try line for try #1. Cambridge attacked, a delightful chip & run by Finlay Owens was soon stopped, a familiar mid field battle ensued only to be broken up with repeated penalties given away by ON’s. Cambridge continued to apply pressure but were losing territory, a searing open side attack from Owens, backed up by William Parker broke down, Sean Cooper smuggled the ball to Patrick Marmion to Headington to Sheppard to place try # 2. Sensing victory, Cambridge pilled on the pressure, often losing balls into touch, Toby Hackett took a loose ball, jinked left, then right, to place try # 3. With an excellent front row defending with heart allowed a lovely running game from Cambridge, Marmion stole ball and ran straight through the middle, all the way to place try # 4. As the match came to a close, effort did not wane, Headington catching k/o to counter & pierce ON’s defence, Sam Nery battling to steal loose ball & feed the backs, Louis Rawlings catching a spinning clearance, backwards to continue attacking right to the whistle. A well deserved win as a direct result of team work was rewarded with the boys, including Marcus Jones who fancied a quick trip to the hospital, forming the tunnel for the Saints to run out, they were presented with their winners medals at half time, rounding off a long, cold, but immensely enjoyable day.
